Today Microsoft announced Skype for Business, a replacement for Lync. For those that have been following Microsoft’s purchase of Skype, this should not be a huge surprise. The Skype platform is solid and has been around for a decade.
Lync has been steadily improving over the years but still has some performance and stability issues. For those that have experienced these issues, this announcement could be very exciting!
If you are on Office 365 then you will be upgraded automatically when the new service rolls out. If you are currently utilizing Lync Server then you will be able to upgrade to Skype for Business Server sometime next year.
